AS Roma are delighted to welcome Volvo as the club’s new Official Car Partner.

The two parties have reached an agreement on a three-year deal, which will see the Swedish car manufacturer work together with the Giallorossi on a number of initiatives and promotions.

"AS Roma are an internationally-recognised brand," Michele Crisci, president of Volvo Car Italia, said. "We are all extremely proud to agree this partnership."

As part of the agreement, Volvo Car Italia will make a fleet of 40 cars – comprising models from across the current range – available to Roma, for use in transporting players and officials and the assisting with the day-to-day logistics of the club’s many activities.

The company's brand will also feature around the Stadio Olimpico on matchdays.

"Today Volvo have joined our great family," Roma chief executive Umberto Gandini said. "Their name alongside ours only enhances Roma's standing, and underlines the strides we continue to make on and off the pitch.

“As a club, we always pay a lot of attention to our family – our fans, our employees, our friends – and this too is a key motivation for Volvo, which puts the greatest focus on safety.

“We are also both alike in the field of innovation: Roma has constantly embraced advances in the digital world, while Volvo is developing state-of-the-art systems of its own.”

The partnership between the two entities seems fitting, given both were founded in 1927 and are currently celebrating their 90th anniversary.

But the deal is made with eyes set on the future, not the past.

“Rome is one of the most important cities in the world, and so too Roma is one of the most important clubs in the world,” Crisci added. “The next three years will be an important one for the car industry.

"Volvo has announced that from 2019 all our new cars will have electric engines. Self-driving cars will be another growing technology – it will be interesting to see how this technically can be used in a great city like the Italian capital.

“We will take on these great changes alongside the Giallorossi.”
