Dzeko hopes goals continue to flow after another big win

Edin Dzeko was careful not to get too carried away, following Roma’s 3-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Thursday evening.

A second successive 3-0 win for the Giallorossi also saw Dzeko score for a second straight game – and left Paulo Fonseca’s side on the verge of qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.

Jordan Veretout and Justin Kluivert had put the visitors in a commanding position at the Fatih Terim Stadium, before Dzeko’s smart finish before the break effectively killed off the contest.

“It was a vital game – if we had lost we would have been out,” Dzeko said.

“We put in a good performance, especially in the first half, and we managed to score three goals which decided the game. Nothing much happened in the second half.”

Does scoring mean that calmness is back?

“Calmness no – us attackers are never calm, we always want to score goals. We hope to keep going like this and to keep on winning.”

It’s a shame that Borussia’s win means that they are still in top spot…

“Yes, but no-one is through to the next round just yet. We need to win and hope that Basaksehir do too – seeing as they can progress as well if they do so.”
