Our unveiling of the award winners for the 2015-16 season continues with the match that was voted the best team performance of the campaign by supporters.
Roma enjoyed a number of fantastic wins throughout the season, particularly once Luciano Spalletti arrived as coach to guide the side towards a Champions League spot.
As a result, it was a particularly tough task for Giallorossi supporters to pick the best performance from the squad during the season.
Here is a reminder of the shortlist:
- Roma 2-1 Juventus
- Roma 5-0 Palermo
- Roma 4-1 Fiorentina
- Lazio 1-4 Roma
- Roma 1-0 Napoli
- Genoa 2-3 Roma
And, without further ado, the final results of the voting:
4th: 4-1 win over Lazio (a)
Momentum was firmly on Roma's side ahead of the second derby of the season, with Luciano Spalletti's side entering the game in the midst of an unbeaten run that showed no signs of coming to an end. And they got off to the perfect start against Stefano Pioli's side, as Stephan El Shaarawy nodded home from Lucas Digne's inswinging cross.
What followed was a dominant display, with Lazio struggling to contain their opponents for large parts. Edin Dzeko doubled the lead in the second half with a well-taken strike - before Marco Parolo's finish against the run of play briefly threatened to turn the game around.
Alessandro Florenzi had different ideas, however, finding the net on the volley from 20 yards to clinch the points, before Diego Perotti produced a similarly impressive solo run and finish to wrap up a dominant win.
"We put in an all-round good performance across the 90 minutes," Perotti noted. "Perhaps we dropped off a bit towards the beginning of the second half, but we got back into our stride and scored again."
3rd: 1-0 win over Napoli (h)
With the battle for automatic qualification to the Champions League still firmly alive (but games running out), second place Napoli came to the Stadio Olimpico knowing that avoiding defeat would effectively secure them a top-two finish.
Mauricio Sarri's side played well for large parts of the match and had their moments, but a determined and diligent Roma performance was elevated to something much more when a slick passing move was finished off by Radja Nainggolan for a 90th minute winner.
“We had to dig in a bit today," Spalletti said. "We showed that in terms of character we have the potential to achieve big things."
2nd: 2-1 win over Juventus (h)
The Giallorossi welcomed the Bianconeri to the Stadio Olimpico in just the second week of the season, with neither side in the greatest moods having failed to win their opening game.
It was Roma, however, who rose to the occasion - dominating possession against the champions as they ultimately finished with 18 shots to their opponents' 10.
Roma had to wait until after the hour-mark for the opening goal, however, as Miralem Pjanic curled in a majestic free-kick - before Edin Dzeko headed home ten minutes from time to decide things, regardless of Paulo Dybala's late strike.
Performance of the Season 2015-16: 4-1 win over Fiorentina (h)
A crucial point in the campaign, and a crucial time to deliver one of the best team performances of 2015-16. La Viola entered the game firmly in Champions League contention, albeit with Roma having drawn level with them on points following a draw the previous weekend.
It took just 22 minutes for Stephan El Shaarawy to open the scoring, with Mohamed Salah firing home just three minutes later. A Diego Perotti tap-in then appeared to have sealed the points before half-time, despite Josep Illicic's 45th minute penalty.
Salah finished the scoring in the second half, securing a 4-1 win that jumped the Giallorossi back into the Champions League qualification spots. It was the team's seventh straight win, and they would not relinquish the place again.
"I am very happy, because the team played a great game," Spalletti said.
