Gallery: First leg defeat in Salzburg

Neither side had any meaningful chances in the first half, except when Bryan Cristante's lofted throughball found the feet of Tammy Abraham just before the interval, but his shot could only find the keeper.

After the break, Roma created some good opportunities but were out of luck in the final third. Cristante's header could only find the post from a corner, whilst Andrea Belotti's close-range strike was palmed onto the crossbar in impressive fashion by the Salzburg keeper.

The home side found the winner two minutes from time, after Strahinja Pavlovic's cross was headed home by Nicolas Capaldo.

The second leg of the contest between Roma and FC Salzburg will take place at the Stadio Olimpico next Thursday.
