Kicking out gender-based violence with club’s latest "Amami e Basta" initiative

On Thursday 8 May, the club and the presidency of Municipality IV chose to reassert their commitment against gender-based violence – a cause AS Roma has been championing since 2020 with its "Amami e Basta" (Just Love Me) project.

Un calcio alla violenza (Kicking Out Violence) is the title of an awareness-raising event that was divided into two phases. It involves the Roma community and seeks to spread - above all among young people - a culture that rejects any form of abuse against women.

The first part included educational activities and took place in the morning at the Liceo Croce-Aleramo in Viale Bardanzellu. About 100 high schoolers participated in a lesson aimed at promoting an active, practical dialogue with an important message: love is anything but control or violence. After listening to the words of some psychologists, the event continued with a discussion on the role of social media with journalist Chiara Zucchelli.

The second part of the event was in the afternoon, at the XXV Aprile Sports Centre in the Pietralata area, where an awareness-raising 5-a-side football tournament was held, with many teams competing. Along with the mixed team of the Liberi Nantes host team, other competing teams included representatives of the Municipality IV Antiviolence Centre, the Liceo Croce-Aleramo, Regional Councillors and Councillors of Municipality IV (with President Massimiliano Umberti and Vice President Annarita Leobruni), Members of Parliament, Autostrade and Q8, Proud Partner of AS Roma, which took part in the initiative with some of its employees.

On this occasion, the club donated two red benches to the Municipality as symbols of the struggle against gender-based violence. The first is located near the XXV Aprile Sports Centre, while the second one will be installed in the park named after Father Leone Capitanata, the famous local priest who did a lot to help citizens in hardship during the postwar period.
