We spoke to DAZN journalist Lucia Anselmi, formerly of regional newspaper Secolo XIX, to get her view on what Jose Mourinho's side can expect from the game.
Does the league table give a fair assessment of Spezia so far this season?
"During the summer transfer window the club really reinforced the squad, looking to make sure they were able to stay in Serie A once again. Unfortunately, however, a lot of positive Covid tests in pre-season made it difficult for Thiago Motta to impose his ideas on the squad before the season started - and I think that is one of the reason why the early displays weren't great, and why the team hasn't shown the same fluency that they did last season."
Spezia have not won in the league since beating Torino on November 6. Is Motta at risk of losing his job?
"Right now it doesn't seem the club's board have lost any faith in Motta, but clearly the upcoming games could have a decisive impact on his future."
Will the team start in a 4-3-3 formation against Roma?
"It's hard to guess the tactical setup of the team. Since arriving at the club Thiago Motta has used seven different formations, the last of which was the 5-3-2 against Inter Milan. So there is no way of being sure of how he will set out his side against Roma."
Who is Spezia's key player at this moment in time?
"Emmanuel Gyasi and Giulio Maggiore are the two cornerstones for Spezia. The Ghana forward is also a crucial element of the defensive work the side does, whereas Maggiore is the player both his teammates and the fans look to.
"Beyond them, even if he hasn't always been a starter recently Daniele Verde has been a pretty useful option for the side: scoring three goals and providing an assist in his 14 appearances to date."
What are you expecting from Roma on Monday, and which players do you think might be important?
"After securing their place in the last-16 of the Europa Conference League they will be trying to bring that same momentum back to the league - and that's why I'm expecting a quality display.
"Spezia will have to pay close attention to Tammy Abraham, who will want to continue his goalscoring form especially after missing the last league game through suspension."
What is your prediction for the game?
"It's not easy to make a prediction. Clearly Roma, playing at home and coming off the back of some good news in Europe, will start with the advantage - but Spezia have always proven themselves to be a really tough opponent for the Giallorossi."
