With hundreds of fans waiting outside the Italian capital's Ciampino airport, Mourinho landed in the early afternoon - briefly addressing some supporters who had gathered to give him a warm welcome, before making his way to the club's Trigoria training centre for the first time.
Prior to his departure on Friday morning, the legendary Portuguese coach sent a brief video message to expectant supporters.
He also posted a photo on Instagram, as he and members of his backroom staff prepared to board their flight from Portugal towards Italy.
With news about the coach's impending arrival circulating throughout Rome, by the time he touched down, at a little after 14:30, thousands of fans had gathered in order to give the coach a warm welcome.
They chanted for the new boss, who waved to them as he got off the private plane at Ciampino.
After staying briefly to salute the supporters from a safe distance, Mourinho got back into the waiting car - ready to head to Trigoria for his first day in the office.
