    Shirt Number Stories: No. 19

We continue our current series, and take a look back at some of the notable players to have worn a specific shirt number in the club's history...

With his arrival on Monday, Bryan Reynolds chose to wear the No. 19 shirt - becoming the 16th player to take the number since squad numbers became individuallly assigned in 1995-96.

Here, then, we take a quick run-through of all the players to have worn the shirt - focusing on a few more notable names on the list.

    1995-96: Franco Florio (Midfielder)

    1996-97: Massimiliano Cappioli (Midfielder)

    1997-98: Carmine Gautieri (Forward)

A winger with a decent eye for goal, he also worked hard for the team - and ultimately made 53 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals.

Wearing the No. 19 shirt (which he only kept for his first season at the club), he was a useful link in Zdenek Zeman's 4-3-3 formaton.

    1998-99: Marco Quadrini (Defender)

    1999-00: Sergej Gurenko (Defender)

    2000-04: Walter Samuel (Defender)

Among the greatest centre-backs in the history of the club, in its full entirety. The Argentine would help the team to win the Serie A title in 2001, playing a crucial role with his combative defending and solid passing from the back. In total he made 173 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals.

    2004-05: Giuseppe Scurto (Defender)

    2006-07: Rodrigo Defendi (Defender)

    2008-11: Julio Baptista (Forward)

Nicknamed 'The Beast' for his imposing physical qualities, Baptista perhaps didn't enjoy the best chapter of his career in the Italian capital but, nevertheless, with the No. 19 on his back he still had some good moments. There was the derby in 2008, the Champions League against Bordeaux and the last-minute bicycle kick winner against Torino, to name three.

    2011-12: Fernando Gago (Midfielder)

A midfielder who became something of a one-to-watch after emerging at Boca Juniors, Gago was extremely comfortable on the ball and well-suited to orchestrating the play from central midfield. He joined the club from Real Madrid, playing for one season under coach Luis Enrique. A midfield with him, Daniele De Rossi and Miralem Pjanic was not bad, to say the least.

    2012-13: Luca Antei (Defender)

    2014-15: Victor Ibarbo (Forward)

    2016-17: Alisson Becker (Goalkeeper)

In his first season at the club, where he largely served as Wojciech Szczesny's understudy, the Brazilian wore the No. 19 jersey - donning the jersey in the Coppa Italia and Europa League for the club. The following season, promoted to No. 1 both literally and figuratively, he helped the team reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

    2018-19: Ante Coric (Midfielder)

    2019-20: Nikola Kalinic (Forward)

    2021: Bryan Reynolds (Defender)
