10 Things to Know about Bryan Reynolds

American youngster Bryan Reynolds became the latest Roma player on Monday afternoon, as his move from Major League Soccer was officially confirmed.

Want to learn a bit more about the 19-year-old?

We've gathered together a few quick facts about the youngster...

    1. Bryan Reynolds was born on 28 June 2001 in Fort Worth, Texas. To put that in a Roma context, he was born 11 days after the club won the Scudetto at the Stadio Olimpico - and four days after the official team celebrations at Circus Maximus that summer.

    2. At the age of four, his father gave him a piece of paper with four sports written on it: Baseball, basketball, football, America football. “He told me to pick one and that was going to be my sport,” Reynolds later recalled. He picked soccer.

    3. He comes from a footballing family – his father, Keith, was actually a United States youth international and also played briefly in Europe (“I was going to nudge [Bryan] towards soccer if I could”, he has admitted), while his brother Ty is also in the FC Dallas academy.

    4. Having joined FC Dallas as a 12-year-old, Reynolds became the youngest homegrown player in the club’s history when he signed contract terms as a 15-year-old in 2016.

    5. He is the latest player off an increasingly productive production line for the Major League Soccer side, who have seen academy products Weston McKennie (Schalke, Juventus), Chris Richards (Bayern Munich) and Reggie Cannon (Boavista) all make the jump to major European clubs in recent times.

    6. After making his professional debut in May 2019 against Los Angeles FC, Reynolds went on to make a total of 29 appearances in MLS (including two in the play-offs) for FC Dallas – including 16 starts during the 2020 season, where he also provided four assists.

    7. A rangey, attack-minded full-back, Reynolds was named the club’s Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year and Breakout Player at the end of the 2020 season.

    8. He has represented the United States at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 level, while he was called up to an Under-23 training squad at the start of January 2021

    9. If and when he makes his first-team debut, he will become the second American to represent the Giallorossi at senior level – after Michael Bradley (46 appearances between 2012 and 2014).

    10. Reynolds has never hidden the fact that it has always been his ambition to play in Europe one day. “Europe is eventually where I want to go and play,” Reynolds told his hometown newspaper the Fort Worth Star Telegram last year. “That’s been the goal, and if that does happen it’s something I want to try to do.”
