On This Day: Francesco Totti's first hat-trick!

Nine years after making his debut at the same venue, Totti scored all three in a narrow 3-2 win over Brescia, getting the Giallorossi a first win of the season after successive slips against Bologna and Modena.

The game was notable for other reasons too - not least for the debut of a certain Josep Guardiola, who came on for Damiano Tommasi midway through the second half.

Brescia - blessed with names like Roberto Baggio, Stephan Appiah, Matuzalem and Pavel Srnicek within their ranks - certainly made it tough going for the Giallorossi, but Totti was ultimately the difference in another statement performance from the No. 10.

"The closer he gets to the goal, the more lethal he is," coach Fabio Capello noted afterwards

Totti thus joined the ranks of players to have scored a hat-trick for the club - a club that now includes a total of 44 players.
