Stat Attack: Facts to know ahead of Cluj trip

With Roma travelling to Romania to face Cluj on Thursday (kick-off: 21:00 CET) - looking to close in on qualification from the Europa League Group Stages -  here are 10 pre-match facts worth knowing ahead of the fixture.

Nearing the knockouts

Roma are one of seven teams still unbeaten in the group stage of this year’s Europa League competition and a win at Cluj will leave them just a point off booking their spot in the Last-32 with two games still to play in Group A.

Fantastic four

Roma are unbeaten in their last four matches against Cluj (W3, D1) after their convincing 5-0 win over the Romanians last time out.

Happy hunting ground

The Giallorossi haven’t lost away to this week’s hosts in either of their two previous trips in the club’s history - winning the first meeting 3-1 in 2008 and drawing the last 1-1 in 2010.

Back-to-back wins?

Victory over Cluj would give Roma successive European victories for the first time since November 2018 when they won three on the spin in the Champions League.

Faultless defence

Paulo Fonseca’s side have kept clean sheets in each of their last two matches in Group A and a third would see them chalk up a trio of successive shutouts in Europe for the first time since March 2007.

On a roll

Pedro has been involved in six goals in his last seven Europa League appearances - scoring five times and also providing an assist, while his effort against Cluj on Matchday 3 was his first European goal for Roma.

Man on fire

Since - and including - his effort in the 5-0 win over Cluj, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored six goals in his last three matches in all competitions.

Improving on the road

Roma have won two of their last three away games in UEFA competitions, which is as many away wins as they managed in their previous 13.

Red-hot away

They have also scored in each of the last eight matches on their European travels across both Europa League and Champions League campaigns - minus last year’s exit to Sevilla, played at a neutral venue - which is a Roma club record.

Young double

Borja Mayoral’s brace against Cluj - his first goals for the club - at 23 years and 214 days old made him the second youngest Roma player to score more than once in a single Europa League or UEFA Cup fixture, after Alessio Cerci (22 years, 146 days).
