Club CEO Guido Fienga was on hand on Wednesday afternoon to officially present Borja Mayoral and Chris Smalling to the media.
Prior to both players answering submitted questions from journalists, Fienga expressed his delight at being able to welcome both men as Roma players.
“I’m particularly proud to be presenting both Chris Smalling and Borja Mayoral together today,” Fienga said.
“They are two players that were members of two of the biggest clubs in the world – and yet they chose to come to Roma. They chose this move and I’m delighted to point that out.”
He added: “We all know the length and nature of the negotiation that eventually brought Chris here to Roma, which is testament to how much Roma wanted Chris and how much Chris wanted to come back to Roma.
“With Borja too there was a good feeling from the start. The choice to come to Roma was Borja Mayoral’s, making that choice instead of the notable alternative – which was staying at Real Madrid, the club he developed at and who made great efforts to keep him.”
Fienga went on to express his hope that both players will prove key components of Paulo Fonseca’s squad over the coming season, for their qualities both on and off the pitch.
“In Borja and Chris we have signed two great players, two good men and two pieces of the puzzle that we hope will help us to win,” Fienga said.
“We also have two of the most motivated players here, having chosen Roma in order to achieve their aims and ambitions.
“I am pleased to have them both as pillars of our project.”
