On This Day: Roma down Juventus in 1986

On this day 34 years ago, the Stadio Olimpico was the site of a memorable Roma victory over Juventus - reopening the title race in emphatic fashion.

In front of a packed crowd in the Italian capital, Sven-Goran Eriksson's home side romped to a brilliant 3-0 victory against the runaway league leaders.

With two points awarded for a victory at this time, Juventus came into the game with a five-point advantage at the top of the table - but they were blown away on the day, as Francesco Graziani opened the scoring after just three minutes.

Roberto Pruzzo added another before the break, before Toninho Cerezo's strike in the closing 10 minutes wrapped up an emphatic performance.

"We won because this is a really good group, we are working hard and really want to do well," Eriksson said afterwards.

The Giallorossi would end up finishing second to their vanquished foes - but they did win the Coppa Italia that season.
