Thomas ready to get back to business

Roma Women forward Lindsey Thomas is looking forward to getting back down to business, when Empoli come to Rome this weekend.

Roma Women forward Lindsey Thomas is looking forward to getting stuck back into the action, when Empoli come to Rome this weekend.

The Giallorosse resume their Serie A campaign on Saturday at Stadio Tre Fontane, after a near-three week break for international matches.

Betty Bavagnoli’s side opened the campaign in mixed fashion – losing at home to AC Milan, then beating Fiorentina 2-0 away – but Thomas, who made appearances in both games, is now eager to help the team really hit its stride.

“Now the season really gets going and we can pursue our targets,” Thomas told Roma TV.

“Obviously, after the loss against Milan we were disappointed. It was our first game at home and we wanted to put on a show for the record crowd that turned up. We lost, but we kept working hard – we knew there were always going to be things we had to work on.

“But we kept working on the coach’s instructions, and you saw the rewards in the next game against Fiorentina.”

She added: “The fans are so important to us, as we saw in the first two games. They’ve really backed us and our hoping we achieve something big this season.

"The club has been clear about its targets. We want to play good football and make sure they keep coming to support us so well.”

Thomas was one of a number of new signings for the club this summer, moving from France to experience Italian football for the first time.

“Personally, I feel good here,” Thomas added.

“It’s a new environment so it takes a little while to settle in, but I’ve adjusted and found my space. I talk a lot with my teammates, they have all made me feel welcome.

"I did think the language would be an issue, but it hasn’t really been – I’m starting to learn a bit of Italian. I’ve adapted well and I’m really happy about that."

She added: “My personal objectives this season are tied to the team’s. If I had to say something, though, I would say that as a forward my aim is to score more than 10 goals.

"After that I want to earn a call-up for the France squad and perhaps play in a major tournament. But I think I can only achieve these targets by having a great season with Roma and helping the club reach its targets."
