Stat Attack: Facts to know as Sassuolo come to the Olimpico

With the game getting underway at 18:00, here are a few facts worth knowing about the game...

Unbeaten...

Roma are the only side still to be beaten by Sassuolo in the six years the club have been in Serie A (minimum of three meetings). In that time the Giallorossi have won seven times, drawing the other five.

...but a tough Olimpico opponent

Of those seven wins over the Neroverdi, only two have come at the Olimpico. The other four meetings finished in a draw - and in every single meeting in the capital to date both sides have got on the scoresheet.

Zaniolo's first goal

The last Rome meeting between these two sides is perhaps most memorable for the first-ever goal for Nicolo Zaniolo, who certainly did it in style...

Drawing board

Paulo Fonseca's side enter Matchday 3 with two draws to their name so far - the only time the Giallorossi have drawn the opening three games in a season was back in 1984.

The ex: Defrel

Gregoire Defrel joined from Sassuolo back in 2017, and this summer he returned to the club. Worryingly for the Giallorossi, Defrel has scored on each of his last three appearances against Roma at the Olimpico (twice for Sassuolo, once for Sampdoria).

The top Roma goalscorers

Edin Dzeko has scored three goals against Sassuolo for Roma - putting him level with former teammate Mohamed Salah in the list of top goalscorers against the Neroverdi.

Milestone moment

It was against Sassuolo, back towards the start of the 2015-16 season, that Francesco Totti scored his 300th goal for Roma - doing so in a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.

Braces

Only two Roma players have ever scored a double in match against Sassuolo: Edin Dzeko managed it on an away trip during the 2016-17, while two seasons earlier Adem Ljajic managed it at the Olimpico.

Heading for 50 nationalities...

Whenever he makes his debut, Henrikh Mkhitaryan will become the first Armenian to play a game for Roma - with Armenia becoming the 50th different country to have had a player represent the Giallorossi.

Previous with De Zerbi

Roma-Sassuolo will be the fifth game against Roma for coach Roberto De Zerbi - who also faced the club during his spells with Palermo and Benevento. To date he has lost three times against the club, drawing once.
