Stat Attack: 10 numbers to know ahead of Porto

Before the Champions League returns with a bang on Tuesday, we've rounded up 10 facts to know before the clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

The action in the last-16 gets underway at 21:00 local time.

    Everything says Porto

Roma have not won once in four meetings with Porto in European competition - two defeats and two draws mean the Portuguese side progressed from both previous meetings between the two.

    The European precursors

As mentioned above, both times these two sides have met it was Roma who ent out - in the last-16 of the 1981-82 Cup Winners' Cup and in the Final Play-off Round for the 2016-17 Champions League.

    Goals, goals, goals

In four previous meetings with Porto, Roma have scored just once - and conceded six.

    No proper Champions League precedents

Roma and Porto have never faced each other in the Champions League proper before - either the group stage or the knockout rounds. The last meeting came in 2016, in the final play-off for that year's group stage of the competition. A 1-1 draw away was followed by a 3-0 home defeat for the Giallorossi.

Porto into the last-16 in style

Sergio Conceicao's side positively flew into the knockout phase of this season's competition - racking up more points than any other side in the competition. Sixteen points from a possible 18 as Porto went undefeated, scoring 15 goals and conceding just six.

    Roma's record against Portuguese sides

Roma have faced Portuguese teams on 14 previous occasions in Europe: winning five, drawing five and losing four. The Giallorossi scored 19 in those games, conceding 15.

    Sporting in 2007-08...

Roma have only faced a Portuguese side in the Champions League once, however - in the Champions League group stage in 2007, they were drawn against Sporting Lisbon. Roma won at home (2-1, Juan and Vucinic with the goals) and drew 2-2 away (Cassetti and Pizarro).

    Dzeko v Marega

Edin Dzeko and Moussa Marega are their respective sides' top goalscorers in the Champions League this season - both of them having grabbed five in the group stage. Dzeko scored a hat-trick against Viktoria Plzen and added two more at home to CSKA - while Marega (who will miss Tuesday's game) scored in each of the last five matches in the group.

DDR sets a Champions League record

Daniele De Rossi has made more Champions League appearances for Roma than any other player in the club's history. On Matchday 1 of this season's competition (away to Real Madrid) the club captain surpassed Francesco Totti, as he reached 58 appearances.

The top five as it currently stands: De Rossi 61 appearances (59 - plus two in the play-offs), Totti 57, Panucci 38, Mexes, Perrotta 31, Doni 29.

Casillas with a record of his own

Iker Casillas, the veteran Porto goalkeeper, has made more Champions League appearances (173) than any other player in the competition's history. In his last game, against Galatasaray, he became the second player in competition history to reach 100 wins (behind Cristiano Ronaldo).
