Torino 0-1 Roma: Match report, reaction and key statistics

Roma opened their 2018-19 Serie A campaign with a hard-fought but exhilarating 1-0 win over Torino on Sunday - thanks to Edin Dzeko's brilliant late strike.

Dzeko volleyed home in breathtaking fashion in the 89th minute to break the deadlock in the game and clinch victory; late reward for the Giallorossi after a determined performance.

Eusebio Di Francesco's side created the better chances, and in larger volume, but they nevertheless rode their luck at times - with Iago Falque seeing a goal chalked off by VAR prior to Dzeko's winner, after an offside in the build-up.

Di Francesco opted to give debuts to just two of his summer signings - with Javier Pastore starting in midfield and Robin Olsen in goal.

Olsen, in particular, had a fine debut - overcoming one early, nervy moment when he nearly mishandled an Iago Falque shot to make a number of important second half saves.

Two other new signings made substitute appearances, and it was the second of them, Justin Kluivert, who made his presence known immediately.

The Dutch winger was a constant threat after his arrival and would eventually provide the spark for the winning goal, as his run down the right flank ended with the inviting cross that Dzeko would lash home.

Like last season, the Giallorossi kicked off the campaign with a 1-0 away win. Next up, at the Olimpico a week on Monday, they face the team they beat that day - Atalanta.
