The Brazilian full-back, who was speaking at the pre-match press conference on the eve of Tuesday's Champions League encounter at Camp Nou, was full of admiration for his opposite number in Rudi Garcia's side.
"Florenzi is a fantastic player," declared Alves to the assembled media. "He's got quality in abundance and a wonderful touch,"
Tomorrow you'll face a friend of yours in Seydou Keita, as well as another Brazilian star Maicon. What will it feel like to come up against them?
"I have huge respect for both players because of all the things we've been through together. It is always an honour to play top-quality opponents and those two are both great footballers. I have a good relationship with Maicon, there's a lot of mutual respect there. He's played a big part in my life and I will be honoured to see him again tomorrow."
What are you expecting from Roma tomorrow?
"The Giallorossi have got great quality all over the pitch. I hope it will be a good game, especially since they usually try to play attractive football."
How is morale in the camp going into this fixture?
"Morale is very good after winning El Clasico. It was a tough and even contest but when you win games like this your confidence takes a boost - along with the feeling that you've done a good job. We have to continue in the same spirit tomorrow."
Are you playing at top form right now?
"We haven't conceded for a few games but the truth is that we weren't doing that badly before - nor are we playing phenomenally at the moment. The more this team gels, the more we'll be able to set our sights on big trophies. You will get good and bad moments during the season - that is normal. We need to keep our feet firmly on the ground to make the best progress going forward and this is true of tomorrow's game against Roma as well."
