The honor, decided by Confederation of African Football (CAF), will be awarded to the African player who has made the biggest impact with a FIFA-registered team.
The Egyptian, who has scored five Serie A goals in 13 games for Roma, was joined by club team-mates Gervinho and Seydou Keita on the initial list of 50 finalists in early October and has now been shortlisted for award.
The award was established by CAF in 1992, though it did exist in a previous incarnation between 1970 and 1994, when the French magazine France Football was responsible for deciding the honor.
In recent times, the honor has been dominated by Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, who has won the last four editions, while Samuel Eto’o (4) and Didier Drogba (2) have also claimed the title on multiple occasions.
The 10-player shortlist for the 2015 award is as follows:
Mohamed Salah: Egypt (Roma)
André Ayew: Ghana (Swansea)
Aymen Abdennour: Tunisia (Valencia)
Mudather Eltaib Ibrahim ‘Karika’: Sudan (El Hilal)
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Gabon (Borussia Dortmund)
Sadio Mané: Senegal (Southampton)
Serge Aurier: Côte d'Ivoire (Paris Saint Germain)
Sofiane Feghouli: Algeria (Valencia)
Yacine Brahimi: Algeria (Porto)
Yaya Touré: Côte d'Ivoire (Manchester City)
The African Footballer of the Year will be decided in early January 2016.
