Wesley

Talk to us about what you felt this evening.

“I’m really happy to have been able to help my teammates. Since I got here, they’ve all believed in me and helped me. It’s completely different and it’s all new for me but they’ve really helped me. I’m dedicating my goal today to them. It’s so nice to start the campaign off like this. It’s a new experience but I’m happy to have played, helped my team and scored.”

How was this evening?

“Amazing. It was a great atmosphere. We were fired up and we wanted to get off to a good start. Then obviously there was the result. We had the right attitude and wanted to play on the front foot to really get this stadium fired up. I think we did that.”

From the get-go it seemed that you’ve put the coach’s philosophy into practice through the number of balls won, the high press and your intensity.

“Yes, we wanted to do that. We wanted to start strong. We’ve worked really hard this month. The newcomers have integrated very well. We wanted to get off to a good start and send out a strong message to the league, the stadium and to everyone.”

You share the captain’s armband with El Shaarawy. What does that mean to you?

“I’m proud. There are a group of four or five of us that have been at Roma for a long time. It doesn’t really matter who has the armband. There are a few of us that have a lot of experience. We’ve got a long way to go and we need to do our bit.
