Emerson Palmieri to wear number 33

The Brazilian is Roma's nineth signing of the summer with more than a week left until the transfer window closes. He follows Iago Falque, Wojciech Szczesny, Edin Džeko, Mohamed Salah, Antonio Rüdiger, Norbert Gyomber, Lucas Digne, William Vainqueur and Ezequiel Ponce in through the door.

The new arrival has previously worn No. 25 with Santos in Brazil and last season wore No. 13 at Palermo. Since fellow countryman Maicon is already in possession of that shirt, Emerson has opted to pull on No. 33 for the Giallorossi.

Since 1995-96, the first season where fixed squad numbers with names on the back was adopted in Italy, many different players have worn No.33 for Roma. Those who stand out in particular include Omari Tetradze, the first player to wear it in 1996-97, Gabriel Batistuta, who wore it in during his last year at the club in 2002-03 and Matteo Brighi, who had this jersey for four seasons from 2007-08 to 2011-12.
