Rudiger: We wanted Genoa win for Garcia too

The Roma players were determined to claim three points against Genoa for Rudi Garcia just as much as for themselves. That's what Antonio Rudiger explained to Roma TV after Sunday's 2-0 triumph at the Olimpico

The German centre-back insisted the team was set on repaying the coach out of respect for everything he does for them on a daily basis.

“We wanted to win and we wanted it for the coach as well,” Rudiger said. “It's a kind of respect. He does a lot for us so these three points are our way of giving something back.”

Garcia said he wanted to see the team's character before the game. That was the response...

“Yes, it was very important to win this game. All the players showed balls today. I'm very happy that we won our last match of 2015.”

Will this help you get going again in the league?

“We'll have a little break now so we can get our energy back and study some more things. Hopefully we can kick on from here but we have to work hard – that's the most important thing.”

You've really started to stamp your mark on games recently. What's changed for you?

“I hadn't had a perfect pre-season when I first came to Rome but I think I'm really there now. I can say that I'm getting better from game to game.”
