Florenzi: I'll try to better Barcelona goal

Alessandro Florenzi has set his sights on scoring a better goal than his long-range effort against Barcelona in order to win the FIFA Puskas Award in the future

The Giallorossi No.24 ended up in third place in this year's edition of the prestigious award but has revealed that he was still delighted at being involved in the 2015 Ballon d'Or ceremony in Zurich.

"Seeing as I didn't win it this year, I'll have to score a better one in the future," Florenzi announced. "It's a tough ask, but I'll try to score a better goal than my strike against Barcelona.

"There are so many superstars here tonight and it's been a wonderful day. I've felt like a kid in the playground."

What's your reaction to coming in third place?

"I'm taking it philosophically, which is the only thing you can do. Let's say that the fans' votes showed how much smaller Italy is than Brazil. Once again, I'll try to do better in the future even if it won't be easy."

Did you speak with Lionel Messi and the other prize-winners?

"I said hello to the players who were selected in the 2015 FIFA World XI. I'll soon be crossing paths with a few of them in the Champions League for Roma v Real Madrid. I hope to get another goal on that occasion as well, but it doesn't have to be spectacular – any important strike for Roma will be enough for me."

If you could only take one selfie with the stars at the award ceremony, who would you pick?

"Marco Van Basten. But that's because I already have one with all the others!"

Are you pleased that you're getting more famous outside of Italy?

"You can only increase your profile on the international stage by working hard every day. Quite simply, this is my motto and what I have to do. Working hard has got me to where I am today and I must continue with this philosophy."

Any comments on Roma's form at the moment?

"I'm only thinking about enjoying myself this evening. I'll get back down to work straight away tomorrow morning – that's the only way we can bring satisfaction to the club, the fans and myself. We're staying calm and we want to put the work in and make progress."
