Digne visits school in Ostia: We need to teach children the values of sport

Lucas Digne visited a primary school in Ostia earlier today and stressed the importance of teaching children the values of sport

The French defender's trip to the Istituto San Gallo makes him the third Roma player this season to participate in 'A Scuola di Tifo', the campaign run with Roma Cares to educate youngsters in primary and middle schools on the values of sport.

"It's important to talk to children and teach them about the values of sport," said Digne during the event. "You must always show respect for yourself and your opponents. It's been great to spend some time with the kids to educate them on that."

After a warm welcome from lots of the schoolchildren in attendance, the Frenchman took part in a fun Q&A session with the kids. Here are some of the highlights.

Who's your favourite player?

"Francesco Totti."

How was your time at PSG?

A wonderful experience which was important for me, as PSG are a big club. But I'm pleased to have joined Roma."

Are PSG a better team than Roma?

"We haven't played them yet..."

How did it feel to score against Carpi?

"It was an amazing feeling, it's massive to score for Roma."

Who introduced you to the game of football?

"I first kicked a ball with my father and my brother."

Do you get nervous before matches?

"I used to a bit, not anymore though."

What sports do you like besides football?

"Basketball. Speaking of which, Michael Jordan once said that 'talent wins games but teamwork wins championships.'"

How are you finding playing with [Stephan] El Shaarawy on the flank?

"I'm enjoying it a lot. He's scored two goals in two games and we're pleased he's joined."

The Giallorossi full-back then posted a selfie with the kids on his official Instagram account, revealing how much fun he had meeting them and how keen he is to get back in action: "What a lovely morning with my new friends! I've gone back to school. Now I'll work hard to play again as soon as possible. Forza Roma forever!"
