The win over Frosinone means there are now three sides that Roma have faced at least twice in the modern format of Serie A and always won. Treviso and Pistoiese are the other teams, both losing two out of two against the Giallorossi. There may be another addition to the list before the end of the season, with Carpi looking to avoid defeat when Roma come calling later this term.
Radja Nainggolan is now just seven games away from reaching the 100-appearance milestone for Roma, and the Belgian continues to add to his goal tally for the club. Nainggolan bagged his ninth goal – all of which have been in Serie A – for the Giallorossi on Saturday, opening the scoring for Luciano Spalletti’s side as he had done against Hellas Verona on 17 January as the Tuscan coach made his return to the Roma dugout. In fact, in the nine games Nainggolan has scored in he has been the first or only scorer on eight occasions, with Roma going on to win seven, draw one and lose one of those games.
Miralem Pjanic’s goal against Frosinone was his tenth goal of the season. In total he has scored 28 times over the course of his five-season stay with the Giallorossi.
Just like against Chievo at the beginning of the month, the debuts of Marco Tumminello and Lorenzo Di Livio saw Roma hand a first appearance to two young players in the same match. It means the Giallorossi have had 15 debutants this season alone, two fewer than the 17 we saw in the 2014-15 season.
Excluding goalkeepers Wojciech Szczesny and Morgan De Sanctis, 17 of the 31 players to represent Roma in all competitions this season have got their names on the scoresheet. No.17 was none other than new signing Stephan El Shaarawy, who scored the Giallorossi’s second goal against Frosinone.
With 28 goals from 169 appearances in all competitions, Miralem Pjanic overtakes Scudetto-winners Aristide Coscia (154 appearances) and Paulo Roberto Falcao (152 appearances) to move into 42nd position in Roma’s all-time leading scorer charts. He’s level with winger and 1942 title-winner Ermes Borsetti, centre-forward Mario Tontodonati, Uruguayan Daniel Fonseca and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.
With his fantastic backheel goal, Stephan El Shaarawy – set up by another debutant in the shape of Ervin Zukanovic – added his name to 56 players to have scored on their Roma debut. The last Italian player to manage the feat was Filippo Maria Scardina in Roma’s 3-0 away win over CSKA Sofia in the Europa League on 16 December 2009. After Scardina came three foreigners: Argentine Erik Lamela in the 1-0 league win over Palermo on 18 October 2011, Uruguayan Nico Lopez in Roma 2-2 Catania on 26 August 2012 and finally Serbian Adem Ljajic in Roma 3-0 Hellas Verona on 1 September 2013.
Roma's 3-0 win over Frosinone came 94 days after they last won having scored at least three goals. Udinese were the opposition on 28 October 2015, with the Giallorossi once again winning 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.
By beating Frosinone in their first competitive fixture at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma recorded their third win over their local rivals in the capital to maintain their 100% record in competitive and friendly matches. The first meeting between the two sides took place at Campo Testaccio on 22 May 1935, with the Giallorossi recording an emphatic 8-1 win, while the most recent game was back on 10 October 1956, a training match at the Stadio Nazionale that Roma won 4-1. It proved to be the perfect fillip for the Giallorossi, who went on to beat Lazio 3-0 next time out.
By coming on in the second half to replace Edin Dzeko, Francesco Totti made his 593rd Serie A appearance against Frosinone on Sunday, surpassing Gianluca Pagliuca to move into third position in the all-time Serie A appearances chart behind Paolo Madini (647) and Javier Zanetti (615). In all competitions, Totti has made 748 appearances for the club.
Ervin Zukanovic and Stephan El Shaarawy made their debuts for the Giallorossi against Frosinone, meaning that a total of 664 players have now represented Roma in the top flight of Italian football since 1927.
