"I think that was one of our best displays of the season, against a top side that - come the end of the campaign - will be in the hunt to win the Champions League along with two or three other teams," began the Giallorossi full-back. "Occasionally, at times like these, you need a bit of luck and common sense. I'm referring to the penalty we should have been given."
Alessandro was sent sprawling 10 minutes from time by Dani Carvajal but Czech referee Pavel Kralovec didn't think the challenge warranted a penalty for Luciano Spalletti's side.
"The referee saw what happened and ultimately it's his call. We played really well tonight and we're gutted about the result - we're not happy with it. The fans clapped us off at the end and that means they witnessed a good Roma performance for the full 95 minutes. We're on the right track."
Florenzi deflected Cristiano Ronaldo's shot for the opener, which appeared to wrongfoot Wojciech Szczcesny.
"You can go left or right against Ronaldo and it's the same thing. You can't afford someone like him anything. I was a bit unlucky the ball caught me because the deflection sent it into the top corner. Regardless of how it went, I still maintain tonight was one of our best performances of the season."
The Champions League last 16 second leg will be played in Madrid on 8 March.
"We have to push on from this," concluded the Italy international. "We'll go there safe in the knowledge that we won't let up one bit."
