The German national team have confirmed that Roma defender Antonio Rudiger has been ruled out of Euro 2016
A statement released on the German FA's official website on Tuesday evening read: "The Germany international [Antonio Rudiger] has been ruled out of the European Championship after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Die Mannschaft's first training session in Evian."
The injury is a particularly cruel blow for the Roma favourite, who had taken to Twitter only hours earlier to express his excitement about traveling to France.
The 23-year-old completed a permanent move to Roma from Stuttgart last week.
The thoughts of everyone at AS Roma are with Antonio and we all wish him a full and speedy recovery.
