The Giallorossi go into their penultimate league game with a chance of overtaking Napoli, now just two points above them – a possibility the boss says was hard to even imagine just a few months ago.
But he insists that if Roma are to have any chance of pulling it off, everyone's thoughts must be solely on getting the three points at the Olimpico.
“Sometimes the impossible happens,” Spalletti opined during his press conference on Saturday. “We've got ourselves into this position where we can aim for second place and nothing else matters.
“The players deserve huge credit because they've done something that looked almost impossible, which is making sure of third place.
“By aiming for the impossible we've created this new opportunity for ourselves. Now we're all focused on tomorrow's game because it could reward us for all our efforts up till now. We all need to maintain this level of focus.”
The coach, who has managed 12 wins, three draws and one defeat since returning to the Giallorossi dugout in January, was also keen to praise his players' team spirit.
“The whole squad is pulling in the same direction for the same objective. I see that from the way they behave both on the bench and on the pitch. They all want to do their bit and that's a luxury for a coach to have.”
