Giacomelli to referee Sampdoria clash

Giaco

Piero Giacomelli will take charge of Roma's return to league action after the international break against Sampdoria on Sunday afternoon

It will be the sixth time Giacomelli has officiated a Giallorossi game. Of those past contests, Roma have won three games, drawing the other two.

The Trieste-based official first encountered Roma back on 1 September 2013, when goals from Maicon, Miralem Pjanic and Adem Ljajic at the Stadio Olimpico sent Verona packing 3-0.

The most recent occasion was back on 21 February, when Luciano Spalletti's men thrashed Palermo 5-0. The Giallorossi's third victory with Giacomelli in the middle was Roma 3-1 Empoli last season in October, with goals from Pjanic, Daniele De Rossi and Mohamed Salah.

Both draws came at the Olimpico: 1-1 against Sampdoria in November 2013 and the goalless encounter against Parma in February 2015.

As for the opponent's top-flight record with this referee in charge, in eight games Sampdoria have recorded two wins, a single draw against Roma and five defeats, all of which came on the road.

Giacomelli will be joined by assistants Marco Barbirati and Mauro Vivenzi, fourth official Claudio La Rocca and additional assistants Gianluca Rocchi and Luca Pairetto.

Kick-off for the match on Sunday in Week 3 of Serie A 2016-17 has been scheduled for 15:00 CEST.
