Roma full-back Lucas Digne believes he has learned a lot at the club this season – saying he has produced the best form of his career at the Stadio Olimpico.
The France international, currently on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has enjoyed regular action in defence for Luciano Spalletti’s side, with the January arrival of Stephan El Shaarawy seeing the blossoming of an understanding down the right-hand side that has helped the Giallorossi’s attacking output.
The 22-year-old has made 30 league appearances for the club so far this term, with his three goals and five assists making him one of the most productive full-backs in European football.
“I think I have made a lot of progress,” Digne told French website Football 365. “Especially on the tactical aspect of my defensive play. And the stats confirm what I think: this is my best season.
“It's great to be part of one of the top sides in Serie A. We’re getting better. This gives us a lot of confidence.”
Digne played the full 90 minutes of the recent come-from-behind victory at Genoa, a result that he feels underlines the spirit within Spalletti’s squad at the moment.
“It was a victory of determination,” he said. “And it's no coincidence that we have achieved this superb comeback and win on a trip like this. We have had a fantastic series of positive results.
"We have not lost in 15 matches in Serie A. This is the kind of run that gives a lot of confidence.”
With two club games remaining, Digne hopes his recent form has put him in the frame for France’s European Championship squad. But his immediate focus is trying to help Roma finish second in the table.
He noted: “Obviously I think about Les Bleus and the Euros, but I do not choose the team. I leave that in the hands of Didier Deschamps.
"All I can do is work hard every day and finish the season well with AS Roma.”
