Antonio Rudiger scored a goal and provided an assist in his return to competitive action on Saturday morning - as he played 83 minutes in the Primavera's 4-0 win over Novara.

Rudiger, back on the pitch barely four months after suffering a serious knee injury, wore the No. 4 shirt for Alberto De Rossi's side in the game at Trigoria - and nodded home the third goal of the match during the second half as the Giallorossi secured another victory.

The Germany international rose highest from a corner to beat the goalkeeper with a powerful header.

Rudiger also provided the final touch before Marco Tumminello lashed home Roma's fourth and final goal. Keba Coly had scored either side of half-time to give the hosts the early advantage.

The match represents another important step in Rudiger's ongoing recovery, as he continues on an individual recovery plan to prepare for a return to first-team duties.

Later in the day, at his pre-match press conference, coach Luciano Spalletti revealed Rudiger will travel with the team to Sassuolo next week.

"You all saw Rudiger [today]; he played, did well and scored," coach Luciano Spalletti said on Saturday. "Someone asked this morning whether I’ll bring him along tomorrow. I think it’s better not to risk him. He’ll be with us on Wednesday, however."
