Luciano Spalletti's side fell to a 2-0 defeat against Lazio in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final in midweek, before being edged out 2-1 against Napoli in Serie A at the weekend.
Tommasi, a Scudetto winner during his 10 years with the club as a player, believes such runs always arrive at some point in the season - but believes things can turn around just as quickly.
"These things happen during a season and you have to react to this situation by sticking together," Tommasi said. "The team has had a lot of big games close together recently and this can sap their energy.
"You also have to say that, especially against Napoli, the Giallorossi were unlucky.
"They can get out of [the slump] by doing what they've done so far. I believe Roma have shown, including in the final minutes against Napoli, that they're capable of getting back on track and pursuing Juventus, who can still be caught."
Tommasi was also asked about the forthcoming Europa League tie against Olympique Lyon.
"Lyon are a tough side, but Roma have had joy against them in the past," he said, reflecting on the 2006-07 tie between the two sides. "Nevertheless, as their results from the last round showed, they'll be a tricky opponent.
"I think it will be difficult for both sides to get through."
