Thirteen is certainly not unlucky for Luciano Spalletti's Roma, after Sunday's victory over Cagliari brought up 13 consecutive home wins in the league.
Roma have won their last 13 home matches in the league to match their record run last achieved 87 years ago (between the 1929-30 and 1930-31 seasons). That sequence began with a 5-0 win over Triestina in March 1930 and ended with a 3-1 defeat against Casale six months later.
That side was coached by Englishman Herbert Burgess, captained by Attilio Ferraris IV, and featured the likes of Guido Masetti, Rodolfo Volk (later top goalscorer with 30 that season), Cesare Augusto Fasanelli, Renato Bodini, Raffaele Costantino and Mario De Micheli.
Times have changed and football has become a lot more cosmopolitan. Not that the nationality of the players matters much.
"What matters is winning football matches," Luciano Spalletti is often keen to stress.
Wojciech Szczesny, Antonio Rudiger, Kostas Manolas, Federico Fazio, Bruno Peres, Daniele De Rossi, Kevin Strootman, Leandro Paredes, Emerson, Radja Nainggolan, Edin Dzeko, Diego Perotti, Stephan El Shaarawy, Francesco Totti and all the rest are today's heroes.
Back in 1930, Roma beat Triestina, AC Milan, Pro Vercelli, Lazio, Livorno, Modena, Pro Patria, Torino, Padova, Alessandria, Napoli, Pro Patria again and Casale.
This season's team have seen off Torino, Napoli, Chievo Verona, Udinese, Sampdoria, Crotone, Inter, Palermo, Bologna, Pescara, AC Milan, Chievo Verona again, and now Cagliari.
We should add that the 13 home wins were already being celebrated by certain media outlets after the 3-1 victory over Chievo on 22 December and compared with the Giallorossi's run in the 1930s. However, the papers' count included the recent derby win over Lazio, with goals from Strootman and Nainggolan, which technically was classed as an away game - even if it took place at the Olimpico.

In actual fact, the Chievo win was Roma's 13th in a row at the Olimpico, given that the derby is held at the same ground regardless of who the nominal home team is. Yet, for the benefit of statistics, that match is classed as an away game.
It seems fitting when compared with this team's illustrious predecessors, given that back then the derby away match was not played at Campo Testaccio.
