Francesco Totti tonight handed over his armband to the youngest captain in AS Roma’s youth academy in front of 70,000 teary-eyed supporters inside the Stadio Olimpico.
Totti, who joined the club’s youth set up in 1989 and went on to play 786 times for his boyhood team, tonight pulled on the Roma shirt for the final time after 25 years.
Mattia Almaviva, who was born in 2006, the year Totti won the World Cup, held his arm out for Totti to place the armband on him in a symbolic gesture of hope for the youngsters who dream of one day following in the footsteps of their idol.
