Manolas targets silverware after signing new deal

The Greek defender clinched a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Roma, which commits his future to the club until 2022.

And the 26-year-old now wants to push on and lift a trophy with the club that he joined in the summer of 2014.

“I am very happy,” Manolas said. "From the first moment, the sporting director [Monchi] made it clear that he wanted me to renew. I wanted to stay and, when those two things are in place, everything is straightforward to agree.

“I have renewed until 2022, I am happy about that and ready to give everything, as I have always done, for the team. I hope to win something with this club, because it’s important to win.”

Manolas has played in 13 games so far this season for the Giallorossi, becoming one of the anchors of a defence that has become increasingly tough to break through under coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

"Let’s hope we can keep it up, because it’s the best defence that wins trophies," Manolas noted. "We have to keep it up because being tough to break down is crucial.

The former Olympiakos player's first game after his renewal will come on Tuesday - as Roma look to secure qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League with a win over Qarabag.

"It’s a massive game for the club, for us, for the fans - for everyone," he said. "No one expected us to be in the mix with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid to get out of the group.

"We always believed in ourselves and now we have to produce the goods on Tuesday and make sure we go through."
