Shevchenko warns Shakhtar tie is still wide open

Ukraine coach Andriy Shevchenko believes Roma still every chance in their Champions League last-16 tie with Shakhtar Donetsk, despite losing Wednesday's first leg 2-1.

The Giallorossi succumbed to a second half defeat at Kharkiv's Metalist Stadium in midweek but, despite the deficit at the half-way stage in the clash, Shevchenko does not believe they are out of the contest.

The former AC Milan legend, an interested observer on the night, believes Eusebio Di Francesco's side still have every chance when the second leg takes place on March 13 at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I saw a strong Roma side [on the night], one able to keep its chances alive going back to the Olimpico, a stadium I know well," Shevchenko told reporters.

"With the fans behind them the Giallorossi can make life very hard for you – because of this the tie is still wide open.”
