Roma 3-0 Monza: Dybala double sets Olimpico alight!

Dybala’s first goal for the club will forever be remembered as a thing of beauty; La Joya controlling Tammy Abraham’s flick-on exquisitely with his knee before outpacing the defence and firing into the far corner.

His second – and his 100th in Serie A – was altogether less spectacular but nonetheless important, as he bundled home the rebound after Abraham’s shot had been saved to put his side firmly in control.

A second half header from Roger Ibanez then killed the match off.

Monza came into the contest on the back of three straight defeats to start the season but nevertheless enjoyed a good early spell of pressure. They looked vulnerable on the counter-attack, however, and when Dybala demonstrated all his class to spark the first celebrations of the night it always seemed like the visitors would struggle to find a way back into the contest.

The second goal confirmed that suspicion, with it feeling like only a matter of time before the third would arrive. In the end it came from Ibanez, who rose highest to meet another pinpoint Lorenzo Pellegrini free-kick.

The first of two sour elements of the game came midway through the first half, as defender Marash Kumbulla was forced off with an injury that saw Chris Smalling come on to make his 100th appearance for the club.

Late on a similar fate befell Stephan El Shaarawy, as he also was forced off.

There was, however, time for a late debut for Andrea Belotti – who almost marked the moment with a goal less than five minutes after his introduction.

In the end, however, it was Dybala’s night – as the Giallorossi moved on to 10 points from their opening four games.

They are back in action at the weekend, as they face Udinese at the Stadio Friuli.
