A Night For Kings: Totti and Figo headline star-studded game in Rome

Francesco Totti and Luis Figo will captain two star-studded sides in an unforgettable night of football in Rome this June.

Giallorossi legend Totti will captain one team - with former Inter Milan and Real Madrid winger Figo leading out the other - for ‘La Notte dei Re a Roma’ (‘A Night for Kings in Rome’), a special six-a-side soccer contest to be held at the Stadio del Tennis at Foro Italico, just outside the Stadio Olimpico.

A host of other world-famous names are expected for the showdown, which will take place on June 2.

The stadium, host to the finals of the Italian Tennis Open every spring, will be converted into a football ground for one night only – with all proceeds from the game going to charity, the Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesu.

The hospital, a cause Roma club director Totti has long supported, will receive a donation to help with ongoing plans to build a new transplant and tumour centre.

The game, played in recently implemented ‘Soccer Six' format that is promoted by the International Football Development Association as a second stage for recently-retired footballers, will comprise two halves of 30 minutes – with a special pitch constructed with boards along the outside, ensuring the ball is always in play.

“It will be an exciting night,” Totti said. “It promises to be a new and unique format that should enable both those playing and watching to have fun.

"Along with myself and Luis, one of the greatest players I have ever come up against, there will be a lot of other great players, and great friends involved – some of whom will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I hope that it will be a sold-out night, because this game is in support of a great cause, the Bambino Gesu hospital. Because of this I strongly wanted to be involved.

"The idea is that this event will take place in future years, too, going up against other greats of world football.”

Figo added: “When Francesco called me I was always going to accept, as I consider him one of the greatest to ever play the game. Playing in this match, alongside other great names and for such a great cause, will make this a truly special evening.

"Roman fans are always very passionate and because of this I am sure they will support this event brilliantly.”
