Totti receives career award at Gran Gala del Calcio

Francesco Totti was one of the big award winners at the latest Gran Gala del Calcio, the annual event that celebrates the best of Italian football from the preceding season.

Totti, along with fellow 2006 World Cup winner Andrea Pirlo, was recognised for his fantastic career with a special career achievement award - which both men accepted on stage together.

During the event, the best XI from the 2017-18 Serie A campaign was also revealed. Aleksandar Kolarov narrowly missed out on selection, but both goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Radja Nainggolan were included.

Alisson, now of Liverpool, sent a video message after his selection as the best goalkeeper of the season.

"A big thank you to Roma for having brought me to this level," Alisson said.

"And also a big thank you to [Roma goalkeeper coach] Marco Savorani, who helped me improve to where I am now."

The evening was also witness to a more sombre moment, as a dedication was made to former Fiorentina captain Davide Astori, who sadly passed away last season. Astori represented Roma during the 2014-15 season.
