Substitutes Cristian Volpato and Edoardo Bove both got on the scoresheet - their first senior goals for the club - to bring Jose Mourinho's side back from the brink in the second half, turning the game around and giving the hosts the chance of even winning the game in the closing stages.
That would not quite happen, with Mourinho sent off in the closing stages as he appeared to question the amount of additional time added on by the referee.
The Giallorossi - denied the availability of nine first-team players due to Covid, suspension or injury - went into the break 2-0 after a squalid first half performance, as Antonin Barak and Adrian Tameze took advantage for Verona.
But in the second half, after Nicola Zalewski, Volpato and Bove were added to the fray the Giallorossi improved; with the latter duo both finding the back of the net to change the outcome of the contest.
Volpato struck mere moments after his introduction, as he lashed home a first-time shot from 10 yards out after a corner was only half-cleared by the Verona defence.
Then, not long after, Bove squeezed a shot in at the near post in similar circumstances to reignite the Olimpico crowd.
The Giallorossi are back in action next Sunday - they travel to face Spezia.
