Roma Women 8-0 Sampdoria: Champions League secured in style!

Roma Women will be playing European football next season, after they won 8-0 against Sampdoria on Saturday to clinch second spot in Serie A.

With Juventus winning elsewhere to wrap up the title, the Giallorosse nevertheless dispatched the visitors to Stadio Tre Fontane with the minimum of fuss - ensuring they will participate in the UEFA Women's Champions League for the first time in their history next season.

Annamaria Serturini - on her 100th appearance for the club - opened the scoring for Alessandro Spugna's side, as Valeria Pirone (2), Manuela Giugliano, Paloma Lazaro, Beata Kollmats, Sophie Roman Haug and birthday girl Elisa Bartoli also all got on the scoresheet.

"It was crucial we got the job done," Bartoli said afterwards.

"We are delighted with this achievement - after four years we've finally managed to do it."

Coach Spugna added: "I am really pleased. It was our target and, at a certain point this season, we began to believe we could do it. The players have all been great, almost perfect, and to be able to achieve this is amazing."

The season is not over just yet, however; Roma finish the league season with a derby meeting against Lazio before heading into the Coppa Italia final to defend their title against league champions Juventus.

"Let's say we are still at the halfway point," Bartoli added.

"Now a new season starts for us with the games we've got coming up."
