Roma 2-0 Lazio: Micki and Pedro clinch sweet victory

Roma dug deep and produced moments of quality when it counted to clinch a 2-0 win in the Derby della Capitale on Saturday evening.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and substitute Pedro scored the goals either side of half-time for the Giallorossi, although it was a series of great performances across the pitch that ensured victory for Paulo Fonseca's side.

Edin Dzeko played a vital role in the creation of Mkhitaryan's first-half opener, while goalkeeper Daniel Fuzato made a number of important saves at critical junctures in the game.

Dzeko received a standing ovation from his teammates when withdrawn late on and was full of running in a whole-hearted display.

He showed excellent composure to supply Mkhitaryan’s 42nd-minute opener as he drove to the byline before picking out his teammate to volley Roma in front from close range.

The Giallorossi were largely in control from there on out, but still needed Fuzato to be at his best and his save to deny Ciro Immobile with 15 minutes to play - and the score still 1-0 - was as superb as it was crucial.

And just three minutes later, second-half sub Pedro had applied the icing on the cake as he shrugged off two challenges before arrowing a delightful finish into the far corner from outside the box.

The visitors also finished with 10 men, after Francesco Acerbi picked up a second yellow card late on.

Roma have just one more game left this season - they travel to face Spezia next weekend.
