Club embarks on series of initiatives in run-up to Christmas

With Christmas arriving during what is a tough time for so many people, the club aims to send a powerful message of support as so many continue to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the festive period approaches, AS Roma has begun embarking on a number of initiatives around the city.

With Christmas arriving during what is a tough time for so many people, the club aims to send a powerful message of support – as so many continue to be confronted each day with the devastating impact of the ongoing worldwide pandemic.

The club, in conjunction with its charity arm Roma Cares, has intensified its programmes and initiatives with hospitals, shelters, family homes and more around the city – with the aim of offering support and assistance both to front-line health workers and those left most in need as a result of the ongoing battle against Covid-19.

The first activities took place on Monday, as goalkeeper Antonio Mirante delivered pandorini and calendars, from the 'Amami e Basta' (‘Just Love Me’) anti-domestic violence campaign, to medical staff at Spallanzani hospital.

Defender Federico Fazio was at Bambino Gesù hospital the same day, where he delivered gifts and toys to patients as part of Toys Day.

Over the coming days other hospitals and medical centres will also receive visits from Roma players.

Later in the evening, meanwhile, Roma legend Vincent Candela was joined by Roma Women players Giada Greggi and Paloma Lazaro, as the trio handed out foodboxes at the Sant’Egidio homeless shelter.

The boxes, containing key food items, were prepared at Trigoria by the club’s two first-team coaches, Betty Bavagnoli and Paulo Fonseca.

The distribution of food will continue right up until Christmas.

New events also took place as part of the club’s anti-domestic violence campaign, launched in November.

Amra Dzeko and Veronica Pellegrini, wives of the club’s captain and vice-captain, attended the ‘Giardino dei Ciliegi’ family shelter on Monday, handing out tablets, games and pandorini to the residents and their children.

Elsewhere, in recent days safety kits containing masks and other items were delivered to a number of families.
