Stat Attack: Facts to know before CSKA Sofia trip

With Roma bound for Sofia on Thursday (kick-off: 18:55 CET), we look at 10 stats worth knowing ahead of the Giallorossi’s final Europa League group game.

Brutal over Bulgarians

Of their last seven matches against Bulgarian sides, Roma have lost just once (W5, D1, L1), while CSKA have lost six of their last seven versus teams from Italy (D1, L6) and have failed to score on five of those occasions.

Uncompromising travellers

Roma have not tasted defeat in Europe to a Bulgarian side since October 1975, when they were defeated 1-0 by Dunav Ruse in the UEFA Cup.

Unhappy hosts

Outside of qualifying matches, CSKA have lost each of their last seven Europa League matches at home, which is the equal-worst home record in history across the UEFA Cup and Europa League - alongside Norwegian side Rosenborg, who also lost seven in a row on home soil between 2017-2019.

An undefeated record

Roma are yet to be defeated by CSKA from five previous meetings between the two in Europe (W4, D1) and the 0-0 draw in the previous fixture means Sofia are still yet to score a goal against the men from the Italian capital.

One unproductive opposition

CSKA’s unwanted goalless sequence against Roma is the longest they’ve gone without scoring past any single opponent in UEFA club competitions.

One fruitful journey

The Giallorossi have won on both previous visits to CSKA - a 1-0 European Cup victory in the 1983-84 campaign and a 3-0 win in the UEL back in 2009-10.

Gunning for third

Skipper Edin Dzeko currently sits on 110 Roma goals and needs just one more to move level with Amedeo Amadei (111) in third on the club’s all-time top scorer list.

Aiming for four in four

Spaniard Borja Mayoral has scored three goals in his last three Europa League appearances, but is yet to score away from home in the UEL this season.

Sharing the workload

Roma have had nine different UEL goalscorers already this season, with only Bayer Leverkusen and Arsenal (10) able to say they’ve had more.

Shutting up shop

Roma have kept two away clean sheets in a row in the UEL and have not conceded on their European travels since Jean-Pierre Nsame’s 14th minute strike at Young Boys on Matchday 1.
