Bartoli: We're all eager to get going again

Roma Women captain Elisa Bartoli spoke to Roma TV on Thursday afternoon, as pre-season got underway for the Giallorosse.

Heading into her third season as skipper, Bartoli is eager to get going again - especially following the frustrating way the 2019-20 campaign was brought to a close.

How much have you missed being in the dressing room, and out on the pitch?

“I’ve missed them both so much – especially my teammates, the staff and all those who have a role within our team. It’s hard to explain that feeling of training, fatigue, smiles and struggles that all happen over the course of a season – it’s something I’ve really missed. I’m delighted to be back here again, meeting up with all the players and the staff. We’re excited for the future.”

It will be a long season with you competing on three fronts – one of those being the Supercoppa, which will see last season’s top four teams face each other…

“Yes, it’s the first time that we have started a season so early, August 22, so it’s going to be long campaign. We’ve got three competitions to go for and that’s a big motivation for us. I’m pleased with the format for the Supercoppa given how last season finished, I think that was a fair decision. We want to really go after all of the competitions we are in with everything we’ve got and hopefully there will be some surprises along the way.”

What sort of league campaign are you expecting?

“I’m expecting a season that gets off to a fast and exciting start, with us showing we are a close, united group just as we have been in the last two seasons. We need to take things game by game, without putting down too many targets. We need to make sure we put in the work every day and we will see where that takes us.”
