Roma deliver sanitising gel and protective gloves around city

AS Roma has delivered crucial safety equipment to churches around the city today, as part of the ongoing battle against the Covid-19 outbreak.

On Thursday the club, in conjunction with its charity arm Roma Cares, delivered a total of 8,000 pairs of protective gloves and 2,000 bottles of sanitising hand gel to churches in key parts of the Italian capital.

Organisers at San Giovanni Maria Vianney, San Paolo della Croce and Santa Maria Madre del Redentore churches all received supplies of each (2,000 gloves, 500 bottles), as did the non-profit medical centre Studio Solidale.

Priests, nuns and other staff from those parishes will now redistribute the supplies among the most needy in their local communities, ensuring the at-risk and vulnerable have additional protection against the current coronavirus outbreak.

Those individuals have also been provided with masks, to ensure they can work safely.

Italy is now the country that has been worst-hit by the ongoing pandemic, with more than 40,000 confirmed cases and over 3,400 deaths.

Last week Roma launched a fundraising campaign to help Lorenzo Spallanzani hospital in Rome; the national centre for infectious diseases and one of the key sites in the battle against the outbreak.

Donations to the fundraiser go directly towards providing Spallanzani, and other medical centres like it, with the key supplies needed to fight the spread of the virus.

As the fundraising total grows, Roma will continue to supply hospitals with much-needed equipment – including more masks, hand sanitisers and respiratory equipment.

Officials from the club and Roma Cares are working directly with medical staff to ensure they are provided with exactly what they need to help save lives.
