Roma Women to play in Supercoppa as new formats are set

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) have confirmed the format and dates for the 2020-21 Women's Serie A season - including a new-look for the Supercoppa.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) have confirmed the format and dates for the 2020-21 Women's Serie A season - including a new look for the Supercoppa.

With no winner in last season's Coppa Italia, the top four in the final Serie A standings - who also happened to be the last-four in the cup when the season was suspended - will compete for the Supercoppa.

Roma Women will face league champions Juventus in the semi-finals of the competition, while AC Milan and Fiorentina will go head-to-head in the other match.

Here are more details about the upcoming campaign - with the Giallorosse returning for pre-season on July 9.

    SERIE A TimVision

The 2020-21 season will get underway on 22 August 2020.

The 12 teams in the competition are: Roma, Juventus, Fiorentina, Milan, Florentia SG, Sassuolo, Inter, Empoli, Hellas Verona, Pink Bari - and the promoted sides Napoli and San Marino Academy.

As was the (planned) case last season, the top two in the league table will qualify for the Women's Champions League, while the bottom two will be relegated to Serie B.

    Coppa Italia Timvision

This season the competition will have a new look - with Serie A teams playing their first game in the cup competition on the weekend of September 27.

The 12 Serie A sides will automatically be involved, along with 12 of the 14 Serie B teams - with the two missing out being decided by a preliminary play-off among the bottom four finishers in last season's standings.

The competition will begin with a group stage consisting of eight groups of three teams. Each side will play the other teams in the group once - and only the top side in each group will move on to the quarter-finals.

The knockout phase of the competition will then be played in a home-and-away format until the final - which will be a one-off match at a neutral venue.

    Supercoppa Timvision

The biggest change comes in the form of the Supercoppa, which will now see four teams compete for the title; Juventus, Fiorentina, Milan and Roma.

Both the semi-finals and the final will be played at a neutral venue, although the dates for this have not yet been officially confirmed.
