Film Night: Davide Zappacosta picks out his choices!

This week it is the turn of defender Davide Zappacosta to pick out some of his favourite films...

“When I lived in Avellino I used to go to the cinema a lot - twice a week, even," Zappacosta said.

"In recent years I've gone out less - but I still watch a lot of films at home, along with TV series."

Here are the Italy international's choices...

    Gladiator

“I've put this one first because it's absolutely my favourite film of all time. I like history films and this is an absolutely classic example.

"It has a great storyline, a brilliant cast, an amazing soundtrack."

    Inception

“Leonardo Di Caprio is one of my favourite actors, and if I have to choose just one of his films then I will go with Inception. I like films and storylines like this, that have so much intrigue and suspense and are even hard to completely decipher."

La Vita è Bella ('Life is Beautiful)

“I like this film for how it covered a dark time in the persecution of Jewish people by the Nazis. It moves you with it's depiction of just how terrible that reality was, but also how it can raise a smile as you see the way a father can shield his son from the true nature of the situation."

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

“This is another film that is set in a concentration camp during World War II, telling the story of a friendship between two young children - one a prisoner in the camp, and one free on the other side. Like 'La Vita è Bella' it is both educational and emotional."

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

“I love the whole trilogy, but if I have to pick one of them then I go for the second in the series. I watched it on the recommendation of my brother, who loves these films and always pushed me to watch them.

"I really like the film, both for the plot and also for the development of the themes and how it is made. The first film did not really grab me, but my brother insisted I kept watching - and by now I've probably watched the whole trilogy seven or eight times."
