Gallery: Women hammer Chievo to continue unbeaten run

Roma Women made a real statement of intent on Saturday afternoon with an emphatic 7-1 win over Chievo Verona at Stadio Tre Fontane.

Betty Bavagnoli’s side extended their unbeaten run to four games in a row after a dominant home display, which saw Annamaria Serturini score a brace either side of half-time.

Claudia Ciccotti opened the scoring for the Giallorosse, who went into the break with a 2-1 advantage after the first of Serturini’s two goals.

But the team emerged with renewed confidence in the second half and doubled their advantage through captain Elisa Bartoli, before Serturini’s second goal effectively put the game beyond the reach of the away side.

Substitute Trudi Carter, on for her debut, then set up for Giada Greggi for her first goal for the club with a fine backheeled assist - before headed goals from centre-back duo Emma Lipman and Federica Di Criscio rounded off the scoring.

“It’s our fourth positive result in a row, which gives us confidence and raises morale,” Bartoli said.

“We are a young side, we need this sort of run. They were below us in the league and so it was clearly vital to win. In the first half we lacked a bit of aggression, but at 2-1 we found the right motivation to push on.”

She added: “I’ve now scored twice in our seven games – I did not really expect it but what counts is the team is winning and we are playing well.”
