Even stevens in recent times
The last 10 games in the leaguebetween these two sides has seen an even split of the spoils: with both sides winning four games, and the other two ending in draws. The Giallorossi haven't actually won against the Blucerchiati since September 2016 - drawing one and losing two since then.
The long road to goal
Sunday's visitors have scored in their last four away meetings against the Giallorossi, having previously scored in just three of the eight games prior to that.
Roma's set-piece threat
Roma have scored more goals from free-kicks (excluding direct shots on goal) than any side so far this season in Serie A: four. Lorenzo Pellegrini has played a part in three of them (scoring one, assisting two).
Testing the goalkeeper
Eusebio Di Francesco's side are the only side so far in 2018-19 to have managed more than 50% of their shots on target (52.6%)
A threat from anywhere
Roma have seen 11 different players score already this season in Serie A - more than any other side.
Finishing strongly
Sampdoria have conceded fewer second half goals (as a percentage of the overall total) than any other side so far this season - just four of their 11 (36%).
Happy memories for two hometown heroes
Facing Sampdoria should bring back positive emotions for both Lorenzo Pellegrini and Alessandro Florenzi: Florenzi made his Roma debut in Serie A against the Blucerchiati back in 2011, while Pellegrini marked his first full 90 minutes in the top-flight by scoring his first Serie A goal against Sampdoria.
A story that runs from 1946
Roma won the first meeting between these two sides way back in September 1946, emerging 3-1 winners at home. That was in fact the first-ever top flight game for Sampdoria, following the merger of Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria.
A first for Totti, too
Francesco Totti made his first ever start for Roma against Sampdoria, in the Coppa Italia back in 1993. The legendary Roma No. 10 wore the No. 9 shirt on that occasion (this was before squad numbers were introduced) and was regarded as one of the best players during the game. The Giallorossi lost that game 2-1, eventually going out 7-6 on penalties after the return leg.
And a last for Il Capitano, too
Totti's last-ever Serie A goal for Roma came against Sampdoria, back in September 2017. The Giallorossi won a famously rain-delayed game 3-2 after a stunning comeback - one finished off by Totti's nerveless penalty in the last seconds of the game. His last goal ever for the Giallorossi would come a few months later, against Cesena in the Coppa Italia.
